What will the street style stars be wearing this fashion month?
With show season kicking off this week in New York, the fashion world is looking ahead to the next round of collections. But the action off the catwalk offers just as much style inspiration as the glossy productions, with street style photographers documenting the style influencers' every move. Street style snaps often set the bar for what we’ll actually be wearing next in real life.
These are the pieces we can expect to spot at every turn - buy now and stay ahead of the curve...
A Staud bag
Brainchild of Sarah Staudinger, new ready-to-wear and accessories brand, Staud, has quickly garnered a cult following. The label’s structured, modern shapes are perfect fashion week arm candy - its Bissett and Moreau styles have already been seen swinging on the arms of Alexa Chung, New York-based stylist Kate Foley and Man Repeller founder Leandra Medine.
This season, we’ve got our eye on the Shirley - a perspex and leather design which strikes a spring-like note, and is compact, but spacious enough to hold front row essentials.
A Saks Potts coat
The Copenhagen-based outerwear brand is fast cementing itself as a fashion-world favourite. And in February, particularly in chilly New York City, we can see why. The quirky, colourful and cosy coats and jackets have graced the shoulders of a host of insiders, including Veronika Heilbrunner, Pernille Teisbaek, Adwoa Aboah and Eva Chen.
This season we expect them to be ubiquitous - bubblegum pink mohair is just the thing to brighten cold-weather days, and if the weather turns balmy by Paris, simply shrug it the shoulders.
The Veja trainers
Running between shows, flats are essential, particularly for navigating the snow/ice/hail/rain which is often a mainstay of the February calendar. French brand, Veja, is on it's way to becoming the only trainers label to wear, with global search platform Lyst recently witnessing a 35% increase in searches for the brand.
With sustainable concerns high on the fashion agenda, there is no better time to buy into the label - the minimal white pairs are made in entirely ecological and fair trade materials. Available in a host of colours, from all-black to metallics, each pair has a recognisable V along the side of each shoe.
Emma Watson is a big fan, as is blogger Lucy Williams, founder of the Fashionmenow.com. And the roller skate version might be a good way to beat the crowds between shows...
The Ganni dress
Another Copenhagen import, Ganni, is hosting a New York and London pop-up this season, offering the perfect stateside opportunity to join the #GanniGirls pack. Though every piece in every collection could find a place in your wardrobe, it’s the maxi dresses that will work brilliantly for now.
Modern florals, and nuanced colour combinations applied to silhouettes which manage to look simultaneously modern and timeless. And, they are perfect for layering (essential when the weather is less than guaranteed). If you’re feeling nostalgic for the 1990s, add a scrunchie to your repertoire, too. Rumour has it, they're back.
The Sophie Buhai necklace
Los Angeles-based jewellery designer Sophie Buhai, who launched her coveted brand in 2015, is quickly becoming a go-to for front-row favourites. Creating sculptural pieces, originally from solid sterling silver, and more recently from gold, semi-precious stones, leather and pearls, Buhai's jewellery is the sort that makes a statement while also being suitable for every day wear.
The Anissa Kermiche X Rejina Pyo earrings
Hopes were high for Korean-born designer Rejina Pyo's collaboration with French jewellery-designer-of-the-moment, Anissa Kermiche. And needless to say, the earrings, which we will no doubt see hanging off the lobes of a plethora of fashion week attendees over the next month, didn't disappoint.
The architectural aesthetic Pyo is celebrated for is a match made in heaven with Kermiche's equally as experimental approach to design. The result? Single earrings that are more akin to pieces of art than they are accessories, which will look fabulous with a simple black polo neck and a glittering evening gown alike.
The Nanushka bomber jacket
Budapest-designed label Nanushka has a knack for creating slick pieces that everyone wants to wear. Unsurprisingly, chic French women flock to the brand. Last season the Hide coat in tan was pictured on everyone from Monica Ainley and Camille Charriere to Caroline de Maigret and Chloe Harrouche, before promptly selling out.
The new season version is available in black or sand, but we’re tipping the Ling jacket - perfect for layering under a coat, or as standalone outerwear, should the weather improve. It’s worth noting the label also does excellent denim.
The Blazé Milano blazer
Blazé Milano, the Italilan label brought to us by three Vogue Italia Alumni, Corrada Rodriguez D’Acri, Delfina Pinardi and Sole Torlonia, places the blazer at the centre of a stylish, effortless-but-polished wardrobe.
Immaculate, long-line cuts are combined with unique details - think contrasting lapels and outlined pockets - to create blazers that have well and truly shed their corporate connotations, leaving jackets you will be desperate to wear with everything, be it a pair of jeans (à la Italian style maven and designer Giorgia Tordini), or a slip dress.
